The Muslim Association of Milton (MAM) has been dedicatedly serving the Muslim Community of Milton for more than a decade. The Halton Islamic Community Centre (HICC) Masjid and Halton Learning Centre (HLC) extend their services to the Muslim communities in Milton, Oakville, and Burlington.
Position Summary
The Muslim Association of Milton is in search of an accomplished Imam – Religious Scholar Leader to undertake the crucial position of the principal imam, overseeing religious affairs for the “Muslim Association of Milton.” The selected candidate will provide religious guidance, lead religious practices, and offer leadership to the Muslim Community in Milton, all in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him).
Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership:
– Lead daily prayers (Salat), Friday congregational prayers (Jumma), and special prayers during occasions such as Eid and Taraweeh.
– Provide religious guidance, counseling, and support to the Muslim community.
– Conduct sermons, lectures, and religious classes on Islamic teachings, ethics, and values.
Education and Outreach:
– Offer Hadith studies, Seerah, and Fiqh lessons to community members.
– Develop and implement educational programs for individuals of all ages, including youth and adults.
– Engage in outreach activities to promote understanding of Islam within the broader community.
Community Engagement:
– Foster a sense of community by organizing and participating in various community events.
– Work with diverse community members, considering varying Fiqh, Madhab, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
– Mentor and guide community youth to promote leadership skills and community involvement.
Consultation and Collaboration:
– Provide religious advice and consultation to the Board of Directors and community members on matters related to Islamic principles.
– Collaborate with other religious leaders and organizations to promote interfaith dialogue and understanding.
Administrative Duties:
– Oversee the day-to-day operations of the mosque or Islamic center.
– Collaborate with administrative staff on planning and executing religious events and activities.
– Ensure adherence to relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status (if applicable).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Imam and/or Islamic educator within North America.
- Adherence to Sunni beliefs, strictly following one of the four Madhabs (Hanafi, Shafi’i, Maliki, or Hanbali)
- Possession of a Master’s and/or PhD degree in Islamic Studies from a recognized academic institution
- Profound understanding of Canadian culture, society, and the challenges faced by Canadian Muslim communities.
- Fluency in both English and Arabic
- Hafiz of the Quran with knowledge of Tajweed and Tilawah rules
- Sound knowledge of the Quran, Sunnah, and Islamic law (Fiqh)
- Ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse Fiqh, Madhab, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Proficiency in Urdu can be considered an asset.
